Google Maps: Overlooked SEO

Optimizing your Google Maps listing a free and easy way to promote your business and Website.
Have you given much attention to your company’s Google Maps listing? Did you even know that you had one or that you can not only customize it, but optimize it, too?
Why You Should Optimize Your Google Maps Listing
• It’s free and easy.
• There’s less competition for keywords.
• You can tailor your ad for surrounding areas.
• Savvier Web users are likely to use this instead of traditional, organic searches.
How to Optimize Your Google Maps Listing
• Login to your Google account.
• Go to the Local Business Center (accessed by clicking the “My Account” link).
• Click the “Edit” button next to your business’ listing (or click “Add a New Listing” if you do not have one).
• Complete the form.
In particular, pay attention to the following fields:
• Company Organization: Along with your company’s name, don’t hesitate to add a few keywords that explain what you do.
• Description: In 200 characters or less, use keyword-rich content to describe your business and it’s services. Also, be sure to include specific geographic areas that might be used in a search.
• Categories: Google Maps pre-populates these fields based on words you enter. You are given up to five categories, so wisely choose relevant categories.
