Using LinkedIn for Healthcare and Hospital Marketing

Affectionately known as “Facebook in khakis,” LinkedIn is a social networking site that is almost exclusively geared for working professionals. Unlike Facebook, there aren’t any fun opportunities to write 25 random things about yourself. But like Facebook, LinkedIn is an outstanding networking tool that also lets healthcare systems and hospitals create group pages that corral employees, physicians, clients, patients and others so that everybody (not just the company) can deliver and share information.

Ten Ways to Use LinkedIn

By being team players, your hospital’s employees can help increase its Web presence simply by becoming LinkedIn members and listing themselves as employees. The reason is because Google tends give priority to LinkedIn profiles, at least according to tech maven Guy Kawasaki in his very insightful blog Ten Ways to Use to LinkedIn. However, his advice is more tailored to independent and freelance professionals rather than companies and organizations. Aside from the SEO benefit, once an employee is a LinkedIn member, you can very easily locate and identify them as a colleague, which allows you to invite them to join your hospital’s LinkedIn group.

The LinkedIn Groups Page

A Linkedin group page features tabs for:

• Overview • Discussions • News • Jobs • Updates • Members Discussions and News are perhaps the most important components because they are an opportunity to communicate with your group’s members. However, the Discussions feature is perhaps the most interesting because it encourages a Web 2.0-like participation and sharing of information of ideas from members, instead of simply having it flow only from you and the company.
