Try to maintain your metadata, blogs, links and social networking contacts at least on a quarterly basis.

Try to maintain your metadata, blogs, links and social networking contacts at least on a quarterly basis.

Hopefully you don’t need mnemonic reminders like “spring cleaning tips” to not overlook some details that are part of maintaining your Website, blog and social networking.

Whether it’s April or November, here are five activities that should be performed on a regular—quarterly, if not monthly or more often—basis:

Clean Up Your Metadata

When is the last time you took at look at your site’s metadata?

Along with your top-performing pages, take a look at tags on less popular pages and on all of your images.

• Are you tags complete?
• Are they still relevant?
• Could they use some improvement?

Revisit Blog Categories and Tags

If you’ve been writing three blogs a week since the beginning of the year, you should be approaching 50 blogs.

It’s very easy to let your blog’s organization get away from you, so take a few minutes to list your blogs and their categories before considering:

• Are they properly categorized?
• Would your blog be better with redesigned categories and subcategories?
• Have you been overlooking key topics or categories?

Update Internal and External Links

Internal links: You’ll likely know if you have internal pages that aren’t linked properly, but perhaps you’ve added some new pages that needs links to them from older pages?

• External links: Although your site and blog may be running like a well-oiled machine, that doesn’t mean the sites to which you’ve linked to are doing as well.

Verify your external links and make sure they are still alive so that your linkbuilding efforts aren’t hurting you.

Export Address Books and Build Social Networks

In the last four months since the beginning of th eyear, you’ve added any number of new contacts. But when is the last time you exported your address book and used it to build new connections with social networking sites such as Twitter or LinkedIn?

While you are updating your social networking contacts, take a moment to join our Twitter feed and LinkedIn group!
